Workshop: rhythm and groove for songwriters with Dave Isaacs

The "groove" is the heartbeat of a song, the thing that makes your body move before your ears even catch on. In this workshop, we'll explore how rhythm defines the character of a song from the opening note, and how to both create and execute a groove that will get your listener moving.

It doesn't take great instrumental skill, just a basic understanding of how rhythm works: not math, not mechanical patterns but dynamic movement. All rhythm is a dance, even if you've got two left feet...or two left hands. And moving in time is inherently human: if you can walk, breathe, and speak, you can develop great feel.

If you play guitar and find yourself locked into the same strumming patterns, you'll learn to open up more possibilities. And if you don't play an instrument, the movement concepts we'll explore can have a huge impact on how you perceive and create rhythm.
